Class Structure

Warm Up and Mobility

We begin each class with a warm up. This starts with mobility exercises, then moves into foundational jiu-jitsu movements such as shrimping, break falls, and rolls.

Technique

Next, we move into the technique portion of class. Each week has a specific theme, such as half guard or back attacks. We begin with a foundational movement and then add layers of difficulty for more advanced students.

Rolling

The end of class is reserved for rolling. If you are new to jiu-jitsu, we recommend waiting a few classes before joining live rounds. That said, we believe in trial by choice, so if you feel ready to try it, we support you.

Rolling is the free-response portion of class, where you can test your technique against a training partner in a live setting.

FAQ's

I have never done jiu-jitsu before, is that okay?

Absolutely! Many students start their training with us as complete beginners.

What do I need for my first class?

For your first class, please wear shorts or leggings and a t-shirt. We will provide you with a uniform (called a gi) for your trial class.

Is there a dress code?

We do not have an official dress code. Any clean gi and rash guard is fine, regardless of affiliation. We have gi’s, rashguards, and patches for sale in the pro-shop, and we would love for you to rep our dojo!

I'm ready to sign up! What gear do I need?

If you like class and decide to sign up, you will need at least one gi (uniform), a rashguard, and a mouthguard. We sell all of these things in our pro-shop, but you are welcome to obtain your own if you prefer.
